Weightlifting and Para Powerlifting Have a Go activation at Birmingham 2022

The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games have finally come to a close. What a week we had at the NEC. Our ‘Have-A-Go’ activities achieved unprecedented visibility for weightlifting, engaged new audiences and inspired so many to get involved in lifting weights and becoming stronger. Thousands of people, young and old, immersed themselves in our activations, as we educated them on the sport, busted myths and gave them knowledge on the benefits of being #StrongForLife.

Commonwealth Games impact in action as sports equipment to be gifted to West Midlands groups

● A wide range of sports equipment used in the Games to be gifted to diverse local groups ● Sports clubs, charities and community groups in the West Midlands can apply for the equipment ● The giveaway will build on momentum from the Games to support legacy of more active communities ● Applications open from 15th August until 19th September

Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games

As we come to the end of a remarkable Commonwealth Games on English  soil it is important for us to reflect on an amazing week of sport for British Weight Lifting which saw a combined weightlifting and para powerlifting medal haul of four gold, three silver and two bronze medals. Team England won its first male weightlifting gold medal in 20 years and para powerlifting secured its first ever gold medal.

Heather Allison elected as CWF Vice-President

British Weight Lifting (BWL) is delighted to report that Heather Allison has been elected to the Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation (CWF) Executive Board as Vice-President. The CWF Electoral Congress was held in Birmingham on 4 August 2022 following the successful completion of the weightlifting events at the XXII Commonwealth Games.
