GBR shines at 2025 European Weightlifting Championships
The 2025 EWF European Weightlifting Championships, held from 13–21 April in Chi?in?u, Moldova, showcased the strength and depth of Great Britain’s weightlifting talent.
With 11 athletes representing Great Britain and Refugee Olympic Team member Ramiro Romero competing as a guest the event culminated in historic achievements, debut performances, and a commendable third-place finish for the women's team.?
Day-by-Day Highlights
Day 1: 13 April – Women’s 49kg
Tammy Wong
In her international debut, Tammy Wong delivered a solid performance in the 49kg category. She successfully completed all three snatch attempts at 69kg, 72kg, and 74kg. In the clean and jerk, she lifted 87kg and 91kg, narrowly missing her final attempt at 94kg.?
Nikole Roberts
Making her European debut, Nikole Roberts showcased her potential by successfully snatching 71kg and 73kg. In the clean and jerk, she lifted 85kg but was unsuccessful in her subsequent attempts at 87kg and 88kg.?
Day 4: 16 April – Women’s 64kg
Sarah Davies
Tokyo 2020 Olympian and Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist Sarah Davies achieved a career milestone by clinching her first European title. She placed sixth in the snatch with a lift of 96kg but dominated the clean and jerk, lifting 127kg to secure gold in both the clean and jerk and the total with a combined 223kg.
Day 5: 17 April – Men’s 81kg
Chris Murray
Competing in Group B, Chris Murray demonstrated consistency by successfully snatching 142kg, 146kg, and 149kg. In the clean and jerk, he lifted 170kg and 173kg, with a narrow miss at 177kg, culminating in a total of 322kg.?
Day 6: 18 April – Women’s 71kg & 76kg
Erin Barton (71kg)
Erin Barton managed a successful snatch at 94kg after an initial miss at 91kg. In the clean and jerk, she lifted 121kg but was unsuccessful in her attempts at 125kg and 126kg.?
Isabella Brown (76kg)
Making her European debut and competing in Group B, Isabella Brown delivered an impressive performance by snatching 97kg and 100kg. In the clean and jerk, she lifted 117kg, 120kg, and 123kg, securing a bronze medal in the snatch from Group B. ?
Day 7: 19 April – Women’s 81kg
Katrina Feklistova
Katrina Feklistova achieved a personal best and set a new British record by snatching 105kg, earning her a bronze medal in the snatch. In the clean and jerk, she lifted 120kg and 124kg, narrowly missing 127kg, resulting in a total of 229kg and a sixth-place overall finish. ?
Day 8: 20 April – Women’s 87kg & Men’s 102kg
Madias Ngake (87kg)
Despite not recording a successful snatch, Madias Ngake showcased resilience by lifting 130kg in the clean and jerk, securing a bronze medal in that discipline. ?
Ramiro Mora Romero (102kg)
Competing as a guest Ramiro Mora Romero snatched 161kg and attempted 165kg and 168kg without success. He excelled in the clean and jerk, lifting 200kg, 206kg, and 210kg.?
Day 9: 21 April – Women’s +87kg
Emily Campbell
Emily Campbell made history by securing her fifth consecutive European title in the +87kg category. She dominated the competition with snatch lifts of 112kg, 116kg, and 120kg, and clean and jerk lifts of 150kg, 156kg, and 161kg, culminating in a total of 281kg. This victory cements her legacy as one of Britain's most decorated weightlifters. ?
Mercy Brown
Mercy Brown successfully lifted 104kg and 108kg in the snatch, finishing 4th in the lift before a back injury forced her to withdraw from the clean & jerk.
