Para Powerlifting Open, March 2025

British Weight Lifting (BWL) was delighted to bring the Para Powerlifting Open event to Oldbury Academy on 15 March 2025.

The event comprised of two sessions of para powerlifting and was held in conjunction with Open Weightlifting competition hosted by the local Oldbury Weightlifting Club. Spectators, therefore, were treated with the opportunity to watch and support some of Britain’s finest para powerlifters as well as emerging weightlifting talent.

Notable lifting included Cassy Malyon, who broke the British record for her bodyweight category with a bench 88kg as well as from Paralympic medallists Olivia Broome and Mark Swan both of whom took Gold in their respective categories.

Tom Whittaker, Paralympic Performance Director said ‘the results achieved in Oldbury provides a strong indication that our lifters are ready for the long road ahead of LA 2028. The team continues to demonstrate commitment, resilience, and focus and I am confident future successes are attainable.’
