BWL Statement: Gender Identity
Following the Board Meeting held on 11 July 2025 in Birmingham, British Weight Lifting (BWL) has updated its Gender Identity Policy to ensure full and legal compliance with the Supreme Court ruling of April 2025. This policy was uploaded to our website on 16 July 2025.

We understand the importance of listening, learning, and evolving to better serve our diverse membership. As we move forward, BWL will continue to monitor the impact of the court's decision across our sports. We may also look to open a consultation with members of the transgender community to gain deeper insights into individual experiences, needs, and perspectives.
We thank all our community for their continued engagement as we work to ensure that weightlifting and para powerlifting in the United Kingdom remain safe, fair, and legally compliant.
