The team comprised 58 women and 37 men, who together delivered a strong performance across the Championships, returning from Athens with 21 medals: seven gold, six silver and eight bronze. That success was also reflected in the overall team standings. The women’s team finished first with 258 points, while the men’s team placed eighth with 207 points.
British athletes also made their mark on the record books, setting 10 European and World Masters records during the Championships. Lisa Tobias set five records, Sharon Bowes added four, and Erin Barton claimed a further record.
The performances in Athens once again highlighted the strength, depth and commitment of the British Masters weightlifting community, with athletes achieving success across a wide range of age and bodyweight categories.
BWL congratulates every athlete who represented Great Britain and also recognises the important contribution of the coaches, technical officials, team staff and supporters who helped make the Championships such a successful event for the British Masters community.
Attention now turns to the England Masters Championships, taking place at the NEC Birmingham from 4–6 December 2026 as part of the wider England Championships programme. We look forward to welcoming many Masters athletes back to the platform for another exciting weekend of competition.
