BWL shines at the 2024 European Junior & U23 Weightlifting Championships
The 2024 European Junior & U23 Weightlifting Championships proved to be a memorable competition for our young team. With 15 athletes, comprising 13 female and 2 male competitors, BWL returned home with a record tally of 13 medals.
Nikole Roberts (women’s 49kg, Junior)
Nikole delivered a stunning performance lifting 72kg in the snatch for silver, 81kg clean and jerk (4th) and a total of 153kg for Silver.
Elisha Cruikshank (women’s 49kg, Junior)
16-year-old Elisha Cruikshank lifted well under pressure finishing with 64kg in the snatch and 5th place. In the clean and jerk she was successful with 75kg, and 78kg (7th), placing her 6th overall with 142kg total.
Amelie Pelta (women’s 55kg, Junior)
With an outstanding six-out-of-six performance and only 16 years old, Amelie placed a credible 8th with lifts of 73kg snatch (9th), 94kg clean and jerk (10th) and a total of 167kg.
Erin Friel (women’s 71kg, Junior)
Erin lifted solidly achieving four successful lifts and placing 5th overall with a 198kg total, 87 kg snatch (6th) and 111kg clean and jerk (5th).
Maddie Rosher (women’s 71kg, Junior)
At 17 years of age, Maddie competed equally as well attaining four strong lifts and finishing with 88kg snatch (5th), 107kg clean and jerk (6th) and 195kg total placing her 6th overall.
Isabella Brown (women’s 76kg, Junior)
World Junior medallist Isabella Brown added to her collection by winning silver in the snatch (101kg), and bronze in the total with 219kg. Her 118kg clean and jerk placed her 4th.
Charlotte Absolom (women’s 87kg, Junior)
Charlotte lifted exceptionally well with four successful lifts. With 95kg in the snatch, 117kg clean and jerk resulting in a total of 212kg, Charlotte won three bronze medals!
Alex MacKay (women’s 45kg, U23)
In a closely fought category, Alex succeeded with 59kg in the snatch (7th place), 77kg clean and jerk (5th place) and 136kg total for a final placing of 5th.
Madaline Connelly (women’s 55kg, U23)
Lifting in Group A, Madaline successfully lifted 72kg, and 74kg (7th) in the snatch, and 90kg clean and jerk (8th). Her total of 164kg placed her 8th.
Rachel Bemrose (women’s 71kg, U23)
Rachel lifted 80kg, and 83kg (10th) in the snatch, and then three successful lifts in the clean and jerk: 105kg, 109kg, and 112kg (5th). Her total of 195kg placed her 8th.
Madison Farley (women’s 76kg, U23)
Madison lifted extremely well achieving 89kg in the snatch and a bronze medal. Her 116kg clean and jerk earnt her Gold while her combined total of 205kg placed her 2nd and the silver medal.
Funmi Morgan (women’s 81kg, U23)
Lifting in her first international event, Funmi lifted consistently with four successful lifts. Her best snatch of 94kg, 113kg clean and jerk and 207kg total placed her 3rd across the board and three bronze medals.
Drew Burns (men’s 96kg, U23)
Drew was successful with two snatches: 143kg, 146kg (6th) and narrowly missed 151kg on his third attempt. In the clean and jerk, he lifted 172kg (5th) and placed 5th overall with 318kg total.
Myren Madden (men’s 96kg, U23)
Just out of the medals, Myren snatched 142kg, 146kg and then 150kg (4th). In the clean and jerk he lifted 172kg (6th) and placed 4th overall with 322kg total.
