Building safer clubs: Supporting club welfare across England

Sport Welfare Officer Network Launched to Support Club Welfare Officers

Building safer clubs: Supporting club welfare across England

British Weight Lifting is proud to support the Sport Welfare Officer Network (SWO Network), a national initiative designed to empower Club Welfare Officers and enhance safeguarding in weightlifting clubs.

Funded by Sport England through National Lottery funding, the network works alongside National Governing Bodies (NGBs) and Active Partnerships to create safer club environments and improved experiences for children, young people, and adults.

This network is made up of 63 dedicated Sport Welfare Officers (SWOs), based regionally, to provide tailored support for clubs. Their role is to assist Club Welfare Officers by offering one-to-one support, club visits, training opportunities, and awareness campaigns.

Through this initiative, Club Welfare Officers will have access to expert guidance, helping them to create a safer and more inclusive environment for everyone in the sport.

Upcoming Club Welfare Officer Forums: 20 January – 30 April 2025. Details will be sent directly to clubs.
