9:00 am - Registration and networking

9:30 am - The road is long and winding.  The reality of long-term athlete development from the athletes perspective

Q & A panel with Olympian and Commonwealth Medallist Zoë Smith and Chris Murray Commonwealth Champion

In our first session, you will get the opportunity to unpick where performance really happens in the athlete journey and how coaches really make a difference beyond programming and feedback in the gym.

11:00 am - Coffee Break and interactive discussions

Take a break, grab a cup of coffee, and engage in interactive discussions with other attendees. Share your experiences, ask questions, and learn from each other's insights.

11:30 am - Making weight for weightlifting: Science & application with Danny Lennon from Sigma Nutrition.

In this session, you will learn how strength athletes can make weight for competition, whilst maximising their competitiveness. This will entail the nutrition principles of body composition management, how to select the correct weight class, and strategies that should (and shouldn't) be used to cut weight in the days leading up to a competition and the role of the coach in supporting this safely and effectively.

1:00 pm - Lunch Break

Enjoy lunch included in the ticket price so you can network with your peers. Use this time to connect with fellow coaches, exchange ideas, and soak in the experience.

2:00 pm – Why your squat program is really working! Critical thinking on enhancing performance of your athletes training. A discussion with Giles Greenwood.

In this talk Giles will be interviewed about his thoughts on critical thinking and problem solving as a coach and how thinking errors can limit our understanding and hinder progress at critical points.

3:00 pm – The three paths to creating an Olympian with Spencer Arnold

In this interactive session Spencer Arnold coach of Power and Grace Weightlifting Club and coach to American Olympian Kate Vibert will take you through building a high performance plan with an athlete centred approach.

5pm - Closing remarks and Q&A

Wrap up the day with closing remarks from our expert speakers. Engage in a lively Q&A session, where you can get your burning questions answered by the best in the field.

Speakers:

Spencer Arnold

Spencer Arnold is the founder and head coach of Power and Grace performance. He is also the Director of Strength and Conditioning for Hebron Christian Academy, a private K-12 school near Atlanta Georgia. He currently holds the senior international designation for USA Weightlifting, as well as the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist Certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Over the course of his career, he has coached multiple collegiate and professional athletes in a myriad of different sports. During the course of his day at Hebron Christian Academy, he works with over 300 athletes aged 11 to 18 on the specifics of athletic development for their chosen sports.

As the head coach of Power and Grace Performance he has grown and developed multiple National Champions, Pan-American Champions, American record holders and most recently three competitors at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Kate Vibert finishing second in the 76kg class.

As much as he loves strength and conditioning and weightlifting, his primary passion is his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and his family. He’s married to Megan with two little girls Emma Katherine and Finley Mae, and most recently their youngest boy, Caleb.

Spencer’s driving desire is to help athletes of all ages, skill levels and passions develop into great men and women in their pursuit of their greatest capabilities.

Danny Lennon - Sigma Nutrition

Danny Lennon is the founder and director of Sigma Nutrition, a company producing educational media content on nutrition science. Danny is currently a member of the Advisory Board of the Sports Nutrition Association (SNA), the global regulatory body responsible for the standardisation of best practice in the sports nutrition profession.

Danny's academic background includes a master’s degree (MSc.) in nutritional sciences from University College Cork, and a BSc. in biology and physics from University of Limerick.

Danny has worked as a nutrition practitioner with a wide variety of athletes, but most predominantly with athletes competing in weight-class based sports. He became well known for his role as a performance nutritionist to professional MMA athletes, boxers & other combat sport athletes. He has worked with several athletes making weight for powerlifting and weightlifting.

He is the long-time host of the popular podcast Sigma Nutrition Radio and is also a respected educator in the field. He has spoken at conferences and events all over Europe, as well as the United States and Australia. Danny is also one of the co-founders of the European Powerlifting Conference (EPC); Europe's first and biggest powerlifting-specific educational conference. 

Giles Greenwood

As a competitor, Giles was a British champion and represented GB and England for 10 years. The highlight of his competitive career was a gold medal in the snatch at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester. His coaching experience ranges from being a club coach for ten years and running beginners courses to being Head of Coaching for British Weight Lifting for the period covering the 2018 Commonwealth games, 2016 Olympics  and helping to prepare athletes for international competition.

Zoë Smith

Double Olympian Zoë Smith has stood on every step of the podium at the Commonwealth Games representing England and is also a multiple European Medallist.

Outside of competing, Zoë coaches at East London Weightlifting alongside triple Commonwealth Games competitor Giles Greenwood.

Chris Murray

Chris Murray is a Team England and GBR lifter having competed in European and World Championships with his career highlight being crowned the Commonwealth Games Gold medal in Birmingham 2022. He brings 9 years worth of competitive weightlifting experience, having transitioned all the way from U15 to now senior level competitions. Chris now works for British Weight Lifting as one of the regional pathway officers and as a lead practitioner on the DiSE program, supporting young lifters and clubs through the performance
