This December British Weight Lifting would like to reflect on the past year and celebrate the athletes that made it to the international podium in 2022.

We hope you will join us in congratulating all of the athletes that have taken to the platform this year, whether it be at a local tier three event, or the international stage.

 

Alice Aitchison made it to the international podium at the EWF European Junior and Under 23 Championships when she achieved a bronze medal in the clean and jerk after successfully lifting 110kg in the 71kg category. Congratulations Alice!

Asees Dhanda made it to the international podium at the EWF European Youth Championships when she achieved a bronze medal in the snatch after successfully lifting 57kg in the 45kg category. Congratulations Asees!

Nathaniel Wilding made it to the international podium earlier this year at the WPPO European Championships, where he secured a bronze medal for bench total with three bench presses amounting to 479kg. Congratulations Nathaniel!

Catrin Jones made it to the international podium at the EWF European Junior and Under 23 Championships when she achieved a gold medal in the 55kg category after totalling 183kg. Congratulations Catrin!

Fraer Morrow made it to the international podium earlier this year at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, where she bagged a bronze medal after totalling 198kg. Congratulations Fraer!

Jess Gordon-Brown made it to the international podium earlier this year at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, where she secured a silver medal after totalling 197kg. Well done Jess!

Kim Dean made it to the international podium earlier this year at the WPPO European Championships, where she secured a silver medal after a 89kg bench. Well done Kim!

Lottie McGuinness made it to the international podium earlier this year at the WPPO Parapan American Championships, where she secured a silver medal after a 84kg bench in the 55kg category. Lottie also secured gold in the total. Well done Lottie!

Lucy McGonigle made it to the international podium earlier this year at the EWF European Youth and under 15 Championships, where she bagged a bronze medal after totalling 176kg. Congratulations Lucy!

Matt Harding made it to the international podium earlier this year at the WPPO European Championships, where he secured a gold medal and a 5kg lead on competitors after a 179kg bench. Congratulations Matt!

Micky Yule made it to the international podium earlier this year at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, where he secured a bronze medal after a 192kg bench. Congratulations Micky!

Rebecca Bedford made it to the international podium earlier this year at the WPPO European Championships, where she secured a gold medal after a 90kg bench. Congratulations Rebecca!

Sean Clare made it to the international podium earlier this year at the WPPO European Championships, where he secured a bronze medal after a 147kg bench. Congratulations Sean!

Chris Murray made it to the international podium twice this year. The first time was when he won gold at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, making him the first English male weightlifter to secure gold in 20 years, , with the last being from Delroy McQueen in 2002. Chris then secured silver at the EWF European Junior and Under 23 Championships in the 81kg category. Well done Chris!

Mark Swan made it to the international podium twice this year. First at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, where he secured a silver medal with a 202kg bench. Mark then went on to set a European record and bag a gold medal at the WPPO European Championships with a 200kg bench. Well done Mark!

Olivia Broome made it to the international podium twice this year. First at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, where she secured a silver medal with a 111kg bench. Olivia then secured a second silver medal at the WPPO European Championships with a 115kg bench. Congratulations Olivia!

Sarah Davies made it to the international podium earlier this year at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, where she brought home a gold medal after totalling 229kg. Congratulations Sarah!

Zoe Newson made it to the international podium twice this year. First at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, where she secured a gold medal with a 101kg bench, the first ever para powerlifting gold for Team England at a Commonwealth Games and the only one Nigeria have never secured. Zoe then secured a second gold medal at the WPPO European Championships with a 100kg bench. Congratulations Zoe!

Emily Campbell who has had another incredible year, making it onto the international podium multiple times. Emily secured her first gold medal of the year at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games with a 286kg total. Emily then achieved a second gold medal at the EWF European Championships, where she totalled 271kg. She then went on to achieve gold at the Missen Porcelain Cup. Well done Emily!
