Historic success for Team England weightlifting
Glasgow 2026 was not only a successful Games for individual athletes. It was also a landmark moment for Team England's weightlifting programme.
The Team England women's weightlifting squad was awarded the Daubeny Perpetual Trophy, presented to the team that accumulates the most points across the weightlifting competition.
The Team England men's weightlifting team also enjoyed a superb championship, finishing second overall in the men's team standings.
Together, these results represent Team England's best-ever weightlifting performance at a Commonwealth Games. The achievement reflects the strength of the athlete pathway, the dedication of coaches and support staff, and the continued progress of weightlifting across the home nations.
The success in Glasgow demonstrates what can be achieved when talented athletes are supported to perform at their best on the biggest stage.
Honours beyond the platform
The impact of British Weight Lifting athletes extended beyond competition.
At the Opening Ceremony, Holly O'Shea was selected as Gibraltar's Baton Bearer, while Alfie Bezance proudly led the Isle of Man team into the stadium as their Flag Bearer.
The Games concluded with another proud moment as Commonwealth champion Mark Swan was selected as Team England's Flag Bearer for the Closing Ceremony, recognising not only his gold-medal-winning performance but also his contribution as an ambassador for the sport.
