Black History Month 2026

In 2026, Black History Month UK invites us to reflect and celebrate under the theme, Honouring Our Communities. It is an opportunity to recognise the people, stories and achievements that have shaped our sport and helped create welcoming spaces for others to thrive.

While athletes compete individually on the platform, weightlifting and para powerlifting are built on community. Behind every lift are the coaches, clubs, training partners, volunteers and supporters who help athletes reach their potential.

Throughout the history of our sports, Black weightlifters and officials have made a significant contribution both on and off the platform. Through their performances, leadership and determination, they have helped break down barriers, challenge perceptions and inspire future generations to take up weightlifting and para powerlifting.

This Black History Month, we Honour Our Community by celebrating the achievements of Black weightlifting and para powerlifting athletes, past and present, and recognising those who have supported their journeys and helped shape our sports today.
