Volunteers are the heartbeat of British Weight Lifting, playing a vital role in ensuring the sport thrives at every level. From grassroots competitions to national championships, their dedication and commitment provide the foundation that allows athletes to perform at their best.

Volunteer at the BUCS Championships and British Championships 2026

With two major competitions on the horizon, British Weight Lifting is calling on Technical Officials, loaders, and event volunteers to support the delivery of these exciting national events.

BUCS Weightlifting & Para Powerlifting Championships

The BUCS Weightlifting and Para Powerlifting Championships will take place on 11–12 April 2026 at the University of Lincoln, bringing together student lifters from universities across the UK for an action-packed weekend of competition.

This event provides a unique opportunity to witness the next generation of weightlifting talent as they compete for BUCS titles and national recognition.

British Championships

Just a few weeks later, the British Championships will take place on 16–17 May 2026 at the Telford International Centre.

As British Weight Lifting’s flagship competition, the event brings together the country’s best lifters for a weekend of incredible strength, skill and passion on the platform.

This prestigious event has also been officially designated as a Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games Qualifying Event for weightlifting, making it a key moment on the road to the Games.

Get involved

To deliver these events to the highest standard, we are looking for enthusiastic individuals to support the competition in the following roles:

  • Technical Officials
  • Loaders
  • General event volunteers

Whether you are an experienced Technical Official or someone keen to support the sport behind the scenes, volunteering offers a fantastic opportunity to be part of the action.

Why volunteer?

Volunteering at BWL events offers a range of benefits, including:

  • Getting the best seat in the house to watch some of the UK’s strongest lifters
  • Meeting new people and becoming part of the weightlifting community
  • Gaining experience supporting the delivery of national-level competitions
  • Playing a key role in creating a professional and inspiring competition environment for athletes
  • Your support helps ensure competitions run smoothly and allows athletes to focus on delivering their best performances on the platform.

Contributions for volunteers include:

  • £30 per day* 
  • £5 contribution towards lunch

Contributions for Technical Officials include:

  • £30 per day* 
  • £5 contribution towards lunch
  • £50 contribution towards accommodation costs**

*For volunteers/TOs that can cover 3+ sessions

**For TOs that can cover 3+ sessions on both days of the competition
