Update on Weight Categories
2025 British Championships and British Masters Championships – Men’s 94kg
Following the recent announcement by the International Weightlifting Federation, BWL can confirm that the men’s 94kg category will be included at both the 2025 British Championships and the British Masters Championships.
In recognition of athletes who have been preparing in good faith for the previously adopted 98kg category, BWL will also include this weight category at the Championships. This decision has been made to ensure fairness and minimise disruption to athlete preparation.
Given the limited time remaining before the end of the qualification period on 18 May 2025 for the British Championships and 08 June 2025 for the British Masters Championships, BWL will invite the top-ranked 94kg athletes to compete without a minimum qualification standard.
For events held before the close of qualification (including the BWL virtual event which closes at 1700hrs, 15 May 2025), lifters may of course compete with a bodyweight of 94kg or below in an effort to improve their respective ranking.
We acknowledge that these changes are less than ideal and we appreciate the community’s understanding and flexibility. Further operational details will be shared as soon as possible.
