Team Announcement: Tbilisi 2026 European Open Championships

British Weight Lifting (BWL) is proud to announce the team selected to compete at the Tbilisi 2026 European Open Championships, taking place in Tbilisi, Georgia, from 6-11 March 2026.

The selected athletes will represent GB across a wide range of weight categories in both senior and junior divisions, showcasing depth, talent, and commitment on the European stage.

Team Selection:

Men’s Categories

• Matthew Harding – Men’s 80kg
• Mark Swan – Men’s 72kg
• Sean Clare – Men’s 65kg
• Finlay Davidson – Men’s 54kg

Junior Men’s Categories

• Alfie Bezance – Junior Men’s 97kg
• Josh Grist – Junior Men’s 49kg

Women’s Categories

• Louise Sugden – Women’s 86kg
• Doaa Shayea – Women’s 67kg
• Olivia Broome – Women’s 55kg
• Charlotte McGuinness – Women’s 61kg
• Cassy Malyon – Women’s 86kg+

Tom Whittaker, Paralympic Performance Director, said:

“The European Open Championships are a mandatory pathway event within the qualification process for the LA 2028 Paralympic Games. Tbilisi will be a critical opportunity for athletes to demonstrate their readiness to perform on the international stage and to secure valuable qualification outcomes. This team reflects both our current performance standards and our long-term ambitions as we build towards Los Angeles.”
