Regional Open Series Goes Virtual

Following the update that all remaining Regional Open Series competitions in 2020 will be transferred to a virtual format BWL can confirm:

  • Totals will be eligible for qualification to future national competitions
  • The results from all Virtual Regional Open Series will be included in the national ranking lists
  • The top three ranked lifters in Senior, Masters and Youth age groups will receive medals in the post
  • No limit on the number of entries to each Virtual event
  • The Virtual Regional Open Series remains open to lifters from all regions of the UK
  • Results from the Virtual Regional Open Series will not be eligible to set new records
  • Entry fee for Virtual Regional Open Series will be £15.00
  • Prize money amended to reflect reduced number of competitions:
      • Seniors: £200 for top male and female
      • Masters: £100 for top male and female
      • Youth: PulseRoll vibrating foam roller for top male and female (no change)
  • A Top Club award will be included for each Virtual event (TCRR 8.8.5 Club Classification)

With no date set for the return to physical competition the transition into the Virtual Regional Open Series will provide lifters across the UK with the opportunity to compete purposefully for the first time since March.

The competition will be judged by Licensed Technical Officials to ensure a high standard of officiating and integrity. The Virtual Regional Open Series will remain a members-only competition.

All lifts will be included in the BWL ranking lists to help provide a source of motivation and point of reference for performance for athletes and coaches.  Totals will also be eligible for qualification to future events, notwithstanding the uncertain date for returning to physical competitions and the publication of the official National Qualification Totals for 2021.

The first round of Regional Open Series to take place virtually will open on 01 September at 0900 and submission will close on 04 October at 1700.

How to enter the Virtual Regional Open Series

The Virtual Regional Open Series will be run online using the same system as Lockdown Lift Off.  To enter go to: https://britishweightlifting.us.launchpad6.com/

To access the competition, you will need to log in to your virtual competition account, or create a new account.  All BWL members have been sent an email with a link to create an account.

The Virtual Regional Open Series competitions have been added to the competition calendar on Sport80 and the BWL website, however you still need to go the online system to enter.  You cannot enter these competitions on Sport80.

It is advised that anyone considering entering the Virtual Regional Open Series should enter Round 5 of Lockdown Lift Off as a trial using the virtual system.

Round 5 of Lockdown Lift Off is free to enter for BWL members and the exercise is a single attempt snatch and clean & jerk.  Click here to read more about Lockdown Lift Off Round 5.
