Para Powerlifting Medal Haul at Glasgow 2026

Para Powerlifting opened the medal events at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, and British Weight Lifting (BWL) athletes delivered a standout start by securing gold, silver and bronze across the opening day of competition.

Men’s Lightweight

The men’s lightweight category began the action with two BWL athletes: Finlay Davidson (Scotland) and Mark Swan (England).

Finlay produced a strong series, going 3 for 3 with a best bench of 166kg, earning 5th place.

Mark made history for Team England by claiming the first gold medal of the Games with a bench of 222kg in a tightly contested podium battle.

Women’s Lightweight

England’s Charlotte McGuinness and Olivia Broome followed in the women’s lightweight category.

Charlotte secured 5th place with a bench of 110kg.

Olivia delivered a confident 119kg bench to earn bronze, adding another medal to England’s tally.

Women’s Heavyweight

The women’s heavyweight category featured Hope Gordon (Scotland) and England’s Louise Sugden and Doaa Shayea.

• Hope finished 9th with a bench of 90kg.
• Doaa placed 5th after benching 110kg.
• Louise secured 4th place with a strong 133kg

Men’s Heavyweight

Closing the day were the men’s heavyweights, with Alfie Bezance (Isle of Man) and Matthew Harding (England).

Alfie made his Commonwealth debut and finished 9th with a bench of 172kg.

Matthew delivered a powerful 199kg bench to secure silver, rounding off BWL’s medal haul.Full results:
