Para Powerlifting Autumn Open

The first session of The Para Powerlifting Autumn Open 2017 saw the Women’s -61kg category kick start the competition with 16 year old British Champion, Olivia Broome completing 3 successful lifts to win gold in her category. Francesca Antoniazz took home the silver in the women’s -61kg class with a 47kg lift.

In the Women’s +61kg category, Louise Sudgen who joined the BWL confirmation program in June this year, gave a stand out performance successfully lifting all 3 attempts of 82kg, 87kg and 92kg and bagged the gold medal. British Championships gold medallist Alfie Wright took home the silverware with a successful lift at 65kg. Polly Green from Suffolk Spartans got 3 good lifts to win the bronze in her category.

The second group of the day was the men’s -72 which featured Rio Olympics silver medallist, Ali Jawad. Ali took home the gold with a new British record of 164kg. Oliver Brown hit a 1kg personal best of 163kg and won the silver with Adam Alderman adding to the competition by hitting a 4kg personal best of 148kg taking home the bronze for this category. 19-year-old Francis Cowen also hit a 1kg personal best of 102kg.

Finishing off the day was the men’s +72kg category. British Championships bronze medallist Brett Leahy took home the gold with 2 good lifts. Ross Austen comfortably won silver with a 157kg good lift followed by Mark Stonelake from Help for Heroes weightlifting club, winning the bronze with a 145kg lift.
