European Seniors 2021 Update
BWL has updated the 2021 EWF European Senior Championships Selection policy. The European Weightlifting Federation has confirmed its current intention to deliver the European Senior Championships in Moscow (Russia) from 3 – 11 April 2021.
A copy of the selection policy is available to view here
This selection policy has been created to provide an opportunity for GB lifters to compete at the EWF European Senior Championships providing they demonstrate the potential to contribute towards:
- 2020 Olympic Games selection
- Medals at Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games
BWL recognise that this confirmation from the EWF does not allow athletes much opportunity to prepare or qualify for this competition given the current lockdown and Covid-19 restrictions. The qualification period will be backdated to include the period of 01/09/2019 - 14/02/2021 (and include the Virtual England Championships 08/02/2021 - 14/02/2021).
- Athletes wishing to be considered for selection are expected to demonstrate fitness at this competition.
- Athletes who have not previously achieved the minimum standard will have the opportunity to submit a performance at the Virtual England Championships.
BWL recommends that athletes and coaches read this policy in detail to ensure they understand key selection process, standards and submission deadlines. We wish to remind athletes that to remain eligible for selection they must submit the following no later than Sunday 31 January 2021
- Declaration of interest sent to stuart.martin@britishweightlifting.org
- Complete whereabouts via the ADAMS online system for the full period of 01/02/2021 – 12/04/2021 in-line with IWF anti-doping guidelines;
- Submitting complete & accurate whereabouts is the responsibility of the athlete.
- Failure to submit or maintain complete & accurate whereabouts will result in immediate deselection.
- Athletes should contact iwf@ita.sport if they have trouble accessing the ADAMS system.
Athletes or coaches should contact stuart.martin@britishweightlifting.org if they have questions about the event or this selection policy.
BWL will continually review whether it is appropriate to send a British team to this competition in-light of the on-going challenges around the world caused by Covid-19. BWL will continue to review guidance shared by the British Government, UK Sport, Public Health organisations across the UK and other key stake holders to inform our understanding of the risks, challenges and restrictions across both the domestic and international landscape.
