British Weight Lifting is proud to announce that Cyrille Tchatchet II has been elected to the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) Athlete Council for the 2025–2027 term.

About the Election Process

The WADA Athlete Council election process began with 26 eligible candidates nominated by their respective International Federation (IF) Athlete Commissions.

Eligible Athlete Commission chairs from across the federations participated in a thorough voting process. From this pool, eight athletes were elected to the Athlete Council, ensuring representation from a variety of sports and regions.

The Athlete Council plays a crucial role in ensuring athletes’ voices are central to the development and implementation of anti-doping policies.

Elected Members of the WADA Athlete Council (2025–2027):

  • Mona Brorsson (Sweden) – International Biathlon Union
  • Ivan ?osi? (Croatia) – World ParaVolley
  • Toby Cunliffe-Steel (New Zealand) – World Rowing
  • Jennifer Harss (Germany) – International Ice Hockey Federation
  • Dora Hegyi (Hungary) – International Gymnastics Federation
  • Ella Sabljak (Australia) – International Wheelchair Basketball Federation
  • Elisabeth Vathje (Canada) – International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation
  • Cyrille Tchatchet II (Great Britain) – International Weightlifting Federation

These athletes bring a wealth of experience and expertise, collectively working towards fostering trust, fairness, and integrity in sport while supporting WADA’s critical mission of anti-doping.

Cyrille’s Unique Role

Cyrille has been nominated by the International Weightlifting Federation, following his election to the IWF Athletes Commission in December 2022. As a competitive international weightlifter, Cyrille represented the Refugee Olympic Team at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. He has also competed at the World and European Weightlifting Championships representing Great Britain and at the Commonwealth Championships as part of Team England.

In addition to his sporting achievements, Cyrille is a registered mental health nurse in the UK, specialising in cognitive behavioural therapy. His dual expertise in elite sport and mental health provides him with a unique perspective to advocate for athlete well-being while championing clean sport initiatives.

Cyrille’s Statement:

“I am deeply honoured and humbled to have been elected to the WADA Athlete Council. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the athletes and especially the Athlete Commission chairs from international federations who believed in my vision and supported my candidacy. I would also like to express my sincere thanks to the International Weightlifting Federation Athletes' Commission for appointing me and for their unwavering support throughout this process. Additionally, I am grateful to the International Weightlifting Federation for their immense support.

I am committed to representing athletes worldwide and championing the fight for clean sport. This is especially vital for weightlifting, a sport that has faced significant challenges due to doping issues. I am ready to work tirelessly to promote fairness, integrity, and respect within the sporting community. Together, we can safeguard the future of sport.”

The Athlete Council serves as a vital platform for athletes to directly engage with anti-doping authorities, fostering collaboration and trust while shaping policies that impact sport globally. The election of these members highlights the confidence and trust placed in their leadership to advocate for fairness, transparency, and athlete welfare.
