Day 1 of Weightlifting at Glasgow 2026

British Weight Lifting (BWL) welcomed four athletes onto the platform for the opening day of weightlifting at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. It was an exciting start to competition, with strong performances across both categories.

Day 1 of Weightlifting at Glasgow 2026

Men’s 60kg

England’s Kieran Stiles opened the weightlifting events for the Games.

  • Kieran recorded a 95kg snatch and a 126kg clean and jerk, giving him a 221kg total and a 7th place finish.

Women’s 48kg

Three BWL athletes took to the platform in the women’s 48kg category: Alex Mackay (Scotland), Nikole Roberts (Wales) and Tammy Wong (England).

  • Alex totalled 142kg for 7th place, with a 61kg snatch and an 81kg clean and jerk.
  • Nikole made a strong return from injury, finishing 6th with a 70kg snatch, 84kg clean and jerk and a 154kg total.
  • Tammy secured 5th place after a 71kg snatch, 89kg clean and jerk and a 160kg total.
