Wherever you are on your weightlifting coaching journey, the Level 1 Award in Olympic Weightlifting Coaching could provide the springboard you need to really progress your knowledge of the sport.

Could the Level 1 Award in Olympic Weightlifting Coaching Be Right for You?

What you’ll learn on the course:

This award is available to anyone 16 and over, who is perhaps new to coaching but has some knowledge of the sport and would like to learn how to apply their knowledge in a coaching environment, either to benefit yourself or your clients. On a Level 1, you’ll learn the processes and principles of coaching weightlifting to adults and children, the basic rules of weightlifting, safety in sport, roles and responsibilities of a coach and planning sessions.

You’ll also discover:

  • Critical coaching skills that can optimise coaching performance
  • The main physical qualities that athletes need to develop in weightlifting
  • Identify the key positions for the Snatch, Clean and Jerk
  • Learn assistance lifts for Weightlifting
  • Learn the BWL Teaching method to understand why we perform each one of the BWL teaching exercises.

How you’ll learn on the course:

The course is offered online and with optional practical learning. You will acquire invaluable experience and feedback from a fully qualified BWL coach with a wealth of knowledge. The online course provides flexibility around life commitments and means you can study at your own pace.

The practical day will cover the teaching method, providing you with the skills to guide a complete beginner through an Olympic lift competently, as well as learning the BWL level 1 assistance exercises using the BWL teaching process - back squat, press and deadlift. Throughout the day, you can ask BWL tutors any questions relating to the e-learning previously covered and how it translates into practical learning. Along with peer-to-peer practice and support, the course will provide you every opportunity to succeed.

Why take a course with British Weight Lifting?

At British Weight Lifting we offer a high-quality, complete entry level qualification. We are the Governing Body for the sport, with vastly experienced coaches possessing a wealth of knowledge. 100s of students have completed our courses and continue to come back to continue their learning year after year.

This can be the start of your Weightlifting coaching journey and will enable you to assist a more qualified coach in delivering sessions in a gym, club or other environment. The Level 1 caters for those with limited experience and provides an environment where attendees can develop their own abilities, as well as learning to be confident when coaching others. Furthermore, once you have achieved this qualification, you can then advance to Level 2 and onwards, further improving your knowledge and skillset in the coaching field.

This is not a course where you are expected to know everything or have the most experience, it is more an opportunity for those wanting to elevate their weightlifting game.

What will the course cost me?

The course has 2 methods of completion; there is the fully online method which is 12-16 hours of e-learning and costs £350.

Alternatively, there is the 12-16 hours, plus a one-day practical session which costs £375. If you feel like this is the right time to take the first step on your coaching journey, don’t hesitate!
