The British Weight Lifting Foundation is delighted to announce significant funding for a new coaching scholarship scheme to encourage more people to become qualified in weightlifting or strength training. The initiative is part of its strategy to make a significant, sustainable and positive change in the sport of weightlifting to ensure it is inclusive to all. The team behind the Foundation are passionate about helping to provide opportunities and the charity has been set up to create as much benefit to individuals and clubs as possible. The trustees and staff behind the Foundation are committed to ensuring the charity’s fundraising, programmes, projects and day to day running is as effective and efficient as possible to maximise the benefits available and transform people’s lives.
The Foundation is offering a limited number of FREE places on the BWL Coaching Olympic Weightlifting and Coaching Strength courses.
Speaking on the launch of the scheme, Rebecca Wainwright, Chair/Trustee of the BWL Foundation said “we’re committed to helping to remove barriers and giving more people involved in weightlifting and strength training the opportunity and encouragement to develop as coaches”.
How are coaching scholarships awarded?
The funding is targeted towards individuals motivated to become a coach so to start a BWL club or support a club they’re already working with, or who are already coaching and want to progress and expand their knowledge and skills in order to engage with a wider audience. We welcome applications from individuals who fit into one or more of the following categories:
- Female applicants
- Applicants with a disability
- Applicants aged 16-25
- Applicants from ethnically diverse backgrounds
- Applicants from disadvantaged/low socio-economic areas
- Applicants from the LGBTQ+ community
- Applicants who are refugees or asylum seekers
- Applicants who regularly volunteer at a BWL affiliated club, Partner Gym or Partner School
