Chris Murray Brings Home a Medal on Day 2 of Commonwealth Games Weightlifting

Day two of weightlifting at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow delivered another strong set of performances from British Weight Lifting (BWL) athletes, culminating in a bronze medal for England’s Chris Murray.

Men’s 71kg

The first session of the day featured Corey Duncan (Scotland), Harrison McGrogan (Northern Ireland) and Jonathan Chin (England).

  • Corey unfortunately did not register a successful snatch after three attempts at 130kg.
  • Harrison finished 5th with a 288kg total, made up of a 128kg snatch and 160kg clean and jerk.
  • Jonathan secured 4th place with a 129kg snatch, 170kg clean and jerk and a 299kg total.

Women’s 53kg

Noorin Gulam represented England in the second session of the day.

  • Noorin recorded a 75kg snatch and 92kg clean and jerk, giving her a 167kg total and a 7th place finish.

Women’s 58kg

The women’s 58kg category saw Catrin Haf Jones (Wales) and Eliza Pratt (England) take to the platform.

  • Catrin finished 6th with a 82kg snatch, 106kg clean and jerk and a 188kg total.
  • Eliza made her Commonwealth Games debut with a 87kg snatch and 109kg clean and jerk, totalling 196kg for a 4th place finish.

Men’s 79kg

The final session of the day featured Iain Wilson (Scotland) and Chris Murray (England).

  • Iain finished 8th with a 125kg snatch, 156kg clean and jerk and a 281kg total.

Chris secured a bronze medal with a 325kg total, comprised of a 148kg snatch and 177kg clean and jerk.

Day two continued to showcase exceptional resilience, strength and passion from BWL athletes. The performances across all categories demonstrated commitment and determination as the team progressed through the competition.
