BWL at the 2025 IWF World Championships

British Weight Lifting (BWL) is proud to celebrate the performances of Team GB and Home Nation athletes that competed at the 2025 IWF World Championships held in Førde, Norway between 1 – 10 October 2025.

BWL at the 2025 IWF World Championships

This year’s event was another big step forward for BWL, bringing together lifters from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Jersey. With personal bests and standout performances on the international stage, our athletes showed strength, unity, and resilience at their best.

The team selection for this competition represented a collaborative effort across Great Britain and the Home Nations. While GBR would usually have a team at a World Championships, this year we had the unique opportunity to send a much larger team. By including Home Nation athletes as guest competitors, BWL and the Home Nations ensured that more athletes could compete on the world stage and try to meet the qualification standards for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Celebrating BWL Success

BWL congratulates all the athletes, coaches, team managers, and support staff who helped make this year such a success. From the GB World Class Programme to the Home Nation performance pathways, it was a real team effort that showed the depth of talent and collaboration across BWL.

With the 2025 IWF World Championships also acting as a Commonwealth Games qualifier, the performances in Førde have built a strong base for the road to the next Games and beyond.

Thank You to Our Partners

This success would not have been possible without the ongoing support of our partners, sponsors, and funding bodies. Their commitment enables BWL athletes to compete at the highest level, develop through the performance pathways, and proudly represent Great Britain and the Home Nations on the world stage.
