About the Course

The Essentials of Weightlifting Technique focuses learning on optimising weightlifting technique for performance. Whilst the concepts concentrate on the sport of weightlifting, they can be used in any sporting environment.

The course centres on creating an objective look at weightlifting technique and the ability to effectively analyse this technique so that you can successfully select exercises to turn weaknesses into strengths.

It helps to understand the inter-relationship of three critical components in analysing technique: Weight Distribution, Posture and Bar Trajectory. The course illustrates the effect these factors have on making or missing lifts as well as helping you understand how to assess what area a lifter may be lacking in.

The course also provides insight into the BWL Technical Syllabus, which is delivered to athletes on the Talent Pathway across the UK.

Who is the course suitable for?

This course is for athletes, BWL coaches, personal trainers and strength and conditioning and sports coaches who are interested in engaging in continual professional development: allowing learners to ‘up skill’, ‘re-skill’ or ‘refresh’ themselves.

The Essentials of Weightlifting Technique builds on the fundamentals of weightlifting, to focus on key areas of optimal technique in more depth. Learners will have access to the BWL Technical Model – a unique model which has been developed to support athletes of any ability or age.

  • Identify the key positions for the Snatch, Clean and Jerk
  • Understand the biomechanical concepts which underpin the key positions in a BWL                 technical series
  • Identify the phases for the Snatch, Clean and Jerk
  • Understand how to create a technical series to analyse the Snatch, Clean and Jerk
  • Understand the relevance of key assistance exercises and how they relate to specific               components of the lifts
  • Be able to critically evaluate technique using the BWL Technical Model
  • Learn about the BWL Technical Syllabus
  • Understand how to programme using feedback aligned with the BWL technical model
  • Learn how to optimise technique for individuals based on their body proportions and               strengths and weaknesses
