What a weekend at the 2026 British Championships

The 2026 British Championships delivered our biggest event yet.

What a weekend at the 2026 British Championships

Across an action-packed weekend in Telford, athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and supporters came together to celebrate the very best of weightlifting and para powerlifting.

From first lifts to final medals, the atmosphere inside the venue reflected the strength of our community. Competitive. Supportive. Passionate.

And the performances on the platform matched it.

A huge thank you to every athlete who competed, every coach who supported from behind the scenes, and every technical official, volunteer and member of staff who helped deliver the Championships.

Special recognition also goes to our loaders and event workforce, whose hard work kept the competition running smoothly from start to finish.

You are the reason British Weight Lifting exists.

International competition comes to Telford

This year’s Championships also welcomed athletes and representatives from USA Weightlifting and Malta Weightlifting, helping create a fantastic international atmosphere across the weekend.

We’re grateful for their support and involvement.

The event also played host to a Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games qualification opportunity, adding even more intensity to an already high-level competition.

Congratulations to all athletes who stepped onto the platform in pursuit of Commonwealth qualification.

A new look

The 2026 British Championships also marked an important moment for the organisation, with British Weight Lifting officially launching its new brand during the event. (Read more here)

Designed to reflect the strength, inclusivity and ambition of the modern sport, the new identity signals the next phase of growth for British Weight Lifting and the wider weightlifting and para powerlifting community.

From grassroots participation through to international performance, the new brand reinforces BWL’s commitment to helping more people find their strong.

Special guests

British Weight Lifting was also proud to welcome many special guests across the weekend, including Madam Mayor Eileen Callear, Mayor of Telford & Wrekin, Dr Astrit Hasani, President of the European Weightlifting Federation, and ParalympicsGB Chair Dan Brooke.

Madam Mayor Eileen Callear and Dr Astrit Hasani presented medals in the women’s 48kg category. Both were also presented with commemorative plaques in recognition of their support and contribution to the Championships and the wider weightlifting community.

British records rewritten

The Championships saw a series of outstanding performances and multiple British records broken across categories.
