Weightlifting Secures its place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games
Weightlifting has officially secured its place in the programme of the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028, following the successful vote in Mumbai upon the occasion of the 141st session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). This comes after the IOC Executive Board and Olympic Programme Commission recommended the sport for inclusion as part of their discussions last week.
Matthew Curtain, CEO of British Weight Lifting and IWF Executive Board Member, stated, "today is indeed a time of celebration for our clean athletes. Let us today take pride in the restoration and the rebuild of the IWF under the inspiring leadership of President Jalood. Today, ‘credibility’ has been restored, and ‘legitimacy’ has been rebuilt to our beloved sport. A result confirmed by the renewed support of the Olympic movement.
In making its decision, the IOC noted numerous positive steps of reform made by the IWF in recent years especially in the areas of governance, anti-doping, and athlete advocacy.
