TCRR Update

British Weight Lifting (BWL) is excited to announce significant updates to its Technical & Competition Rules and Regulations, effective from November 2023.

Key Changes Include:

Inclusivity for Refugee and Asylum Seeker Athletes:

Refugee and asylum seeker athletes seeking Permanent Residence (PR) status in the UK will now be allowed to compete in BWL events with full medal status.

Competition Platform Flexibility:

For tier 1 and tier 2 events, particularly up to the U17 Age Group, a 3 x 3m competition platform may be used. This offers greater flexibility in competition settings. Tier 3 events can utilise smaller platforms.

Refereeing Adjustments:

• Tier 3 competitions can now be officiated by a single centre referee with a minimum level 3 licence. Alternatively, three (3) level 2 referees (or a combination) must be used.
• For tier 1 and tier 2 events, BWL reserves the right to use one centre referee when three (3) or more competition platforms are used.

Relaxed Dress Code:

The requirement for compulsory singlets is lifted at tier 3 events and for under-12 athletes at tier 1 and 2 competitions.

But, we also need your help and feedback!

BWL remains divided on whether national records should be able to be set at tier 3 events. On one hand, we think as the primary owner of tier 1 and tier 2 competitions, national records should only be able to be established in events under our direct supervision and jurisdiction. But, on the other hand, we also see massive value in continuing to provide more competition opportunities for athletes – even if at times, we recognise some technical rules are understandably more relaxed at tier 3 events. If you agree with the latter, three (3) referees would need to officiate.
