Records Smashed At Commonwealth Championships
The Commonwealth Championships are currently taking place in Samoa and it’s been a fantastic competition for British athletes who have set 12 new British records.
Emily Muskett claimed Gold in the women’s 76kg category setting two new British records with a Clean Jerk of 127kg and a total of 220kg.
Welsh lifter Catrin Jones secured a Gold medal in the women’s 55kg and an overall Bronze in the senior competition. Jones set two new British records with a Snatch of 77kg and a total of 173kg.
Hannah Powell won Silver in the women’s 45kg setting two new British records with a Clean and Jerk of 84kg and a total of 148kg.
15-year-old Josh Lynch took silver in the Youth event producing a snatch of 105kg and a clean and jerk of 135kg.
Michael Farmer also took silver in the junior 67kg category, with a PB and a British record of 146kg in the clean and jerk which secured his first international medal. Farmer recorded a total of 261kg which is also a British record in both the Under 20's and Under 23's.
Commonwealth Games Gold medallist Gareth Evans set two new British records with a Clean and Jerk of 161kg and a total of 286kg to finish second in the men’s 67kg category.
