The honour comes after a memorable Games for Mark, who delivered Team England's first gold medal of the competition in the men's lightweight para powerlifting event.

Mark's gold-medal performance was another landmark moment in an outstanding few years for the County Durham athlete. Having won silver at Birmingham 2022 and followed that with Paralympic silver in Paris, the Glasgow 2026 title now sits among the greatest achievements of his career.

Speaking after being surprised with the news by Team England Chef de Mission Jonny Riall, Mark reflected on what the opportunity means to him.

"What a fantastic opportunity it is. I'm absolutely over the moon.

"I feel a big sense of pride in that opportunity. I want to say a big thank you and go and have some fun."

Mark also praised the atmosphere created throughout the Games and the welcome athletes received in Glasgow.

"The impact the Games have had on Team England has been absolutely phenomenal. The energy in the hotel at our prep camp was sky high and we were ready.

"The people of Glasgow have done an absolutely fantastic job. The effort they have put in is top class and it's massively appreciated.

"The work done behind the scenes does not go unnoticed. I speak on behalf of all the athletes and all the staff, we're very appreciative and overwhelmed by the support. We want to say a huge thank you."

The 25-year-old described his gold medal performance as a career highlight, made even more special by sharing the moment with family and loved ones.

"They are the best Games I've ever been to by far. Winning in front of my family, in front of my wife, it's hard to beat that. I don't think I'll ever beat that moment."

Mark has been a fantastic ambassador for para powerlifting throughout Glasgow 2026. From winning Team England's first gold medal of the Games to leading the team into the Closing Ceremony, he has represented both his sport and his country with pride.

Everyone at British Weight Lifting congratulates Mark on this well-deserved recognition. It's a fitting way to round off a remarkable Commonwealth Games and celebrate an athlete who continues to inspire on and off the platform.
