Louise Sugden has withdrawn from the 2022 Commonwealth Games
British Weight Lifting has today announced that Louise Sugden has taken the difficult decision to withdraw from the Commonwealth Games due to a recently incurred shoulder injury. Her withdrawal is to ensure her recovery is optimal in the short term and no further damage is sustained.
Nine months after starting para powerlifting, Louise won a silver medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games at the Gold Coast.
At the 2020 Paralympic Games, Sugden won bronze in the women's 86 kg category, securing the medal with her final lift.
Tom Whittaker, Paralympic Performance Director has commented “Our thoughts are with Louise as she deals with the disappointment of missing out on Commonwealth Games participation.
The fact it's a home games made it an even harder choice, but she has the full support of British Weight Lifting and the World Class Program in recovering and coming back stronger than ever”.
Everyone at BWL wishes Louise a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her back on the platform, in full health soon.
