We’re thrilled to announce that Louise Sugden has been elected to the ParalympicsGB Athlete Commission.

Louise Sugden Elected to ParalympicsGB Athlete Commission

As a decorated para-athlete with an impressive career spanning wheelchair basketball and para powerlifting, Louise’s appointment is a testament to her dedication, resilience, and leadership in para sport.

The ParalympicsGB Athlete Commission plays a vital role in amplifying athletes’ voices within the British Paralympic Association (BPA), offering guidance on issues like athlete welfare and the creation of inclusive sporting programmes. The group is made up of current and retired Paralympians who work to shape the future of the Paralympic movement.

Louise’s track record speaks for itself. She’s represented Great Britain at four Paralympic Games, starting with wheelchair basketball at Beijing 2008, before transitioning to para powerlifting, where she secured a bronze medal at Tokyo 2020. Her breadth of experience makes her a powerful advocate for her fellow athletes.

In her new role, Louise aims to push for stronger athlete support, mental health advocacy, and greater inclusivity across Paralympic sport. Her peers’ decision to elect her reflects the trust they place in her ability to lead.

On her election, Louise said:?“I am incredibly honoured to join the ParalympicsGB Athlete Commission. As someone who has benefited immensely from the support and opportunities provided by the Paralympic movement, I am passionate about giving back and helping to shape a brighter future for all athletes.”
