From Home 2 The Games: Update
The British Weight Lifting performance team has had a busy five weeks as for the first time ever, UK Sport and the English Institute of Sport (EIS) are collaborating with Team GB, ParalympicsGB and 19 Olympic and Paralympic sports to launch its latest search for the athletes of the future – From Home 2 The Games.
Emily Muskett, Talent Lead for British Weight Lifting, with the support of the performance team, has run eight weightlifting skills sessions as part of the campaign.
Athletes were asked to complete a number of different tests including a 30m sprint, iso mid-thigh pull tests as well a 30-minute Olympic weightlifting skills session.
British Weight Lifting hope that this talent identification event will help to find the next generation of weightlifters, who may one day be winning Olympic medals for Team GB.
Held in Edinburgh, Cardiff, Derby, Bolton, Manchester and London, around 400 athletes aged 15-22 years took part. After a full analysis of all the results, the BWL performance team has invited 62 athletes to a phase 2 assessment day which will be held on 20 November at Nottingham University.
