Here's some exciting news for young people looking to make their first mark in the world of sports events. British Weight Lifting is giving you the chance to develop your skills and passion by volunteering to organise the 2023 British Age Group Championship!

This is your opportunity to dive head first into the world of event planning and promotion, where you'll get to develop skills that will help you not just in this project, but in your career too. You'll gain invaluable insights into what it takes to create a successful sports event, and perhaps be inspired to organise your own local competition or support other national events.

As part of the team organizing this national competition, you'll get to tackle a wide range of challenging and fun tasks that will help bring the event to life. You'll be involved in planning the schedule, creating engaging content for social media, coordinating the day, and even helping to officiate the competition itself. Your efforts will help create a great environment for the athletes and spectators.

British Weight Lifting is committed to supporting and mentoring all young people who volunteer. You'll have the chance to take on real responsibilities and decision making, with access to guidance, training and mentorship from some of the best in the business, including Maggie Lynes – Head of Events.

Requirements:

Are you someone who's interested in the behind-the-scenes planning and organization? Are you someone who loves to get creative? Or are you someone who likes working with people and taking on practical tasks?

If any of these describe you, then this opportunity to volunteer with British Weight Lifting to organise the British Age Group Championship is perfect for you! We're looking for young people who are passionate and excited about making a difference in the world of sports.

To apply, you need to:

  • Be aged 16-25.
  • Provide parental consent If you are aged 16 or 17
  • Have some passion for weightlifting, but you don't need to be a weightlifter
  • Be available to attend an in-person meet up on Saturday 15 July in Nottingham
  • Be available to attend online team meetings and have time to spend on planning or promotional activities from July onwards.
  • Be available to attend the British Age Group Championship on Saturday 9 & Sunday 10 September in Leeds. If you are competing in the event, you are still able to apply and take on a role.

Young people are disproportionately affected by the cost-of-living crisis. To ensure that cost isn’t a barrier to involvement, members of the youth event team will be provided with travel, accommodation, and meal expenses.
