EWF European Junior & Under 23 team announcement 2023

British Weight Lifting (BWL) is pleased to announce a team of nine athletes who will represent Great Britain at the European Weightlifting Federation (EWF) European Junior & Under 23 Championships, which takes place between 26 July – 3 August in Bucharest, Romania.

The team is as follows:

• W64 – Josie Griffiths (U23) - England
• W71 – Erin Friel (Junior) - England
• W76 – Bella Brown (Junior) - England
• W76 – Madison Farley (U23) - England
• W87 – Emily Sweeney (Junior) - England
• M89 – Stefano Cataldi (Junior) - England
• M96 – Henry Axon (Junior) - Scotland
• M96 – Myren Madden (U23) - England
• M96 – Stephen Bestman (U23) - England

BWL Head of Weightlifting Performance Stuart Martin commented “This year’s team features four new faces including BWL Talent Transfer athlete Madison Farley who earns her first selection for GBR after deciding to transfer to the sport from CrossFit in October 22.

The five returning athletes will be looking to build on last year’s championships in Albania as they enter their second year as junior athletes.

Myren Madden will enter his first year as an Under 23 athlete. The recently crowned BWL young weightlifter of the year will be looking to follow last year’s breakthrough performance and a strong English Age-groups.

Stefano Cataldi returns from a wrist injury ruling him out of the European Senior championships and will no doubt look to challenge Myren with the two athletes finishing 2022 with nearly identical totals. We wish all athletes and coaches the best of luck with their preparation for the event.”
