England Legacy Masters Championships and Para Powerlifting Open
In celebration of the Commonwealth Games Legacy, weightlifting and para powerlifting competitions are returning to Birmingham this summer.
The England Legacy Masters Championships and Para Powerlifting Open will take place between 17 – 18 June 2023 at Oldbury Academy.
The England Legacy Masters Championships is the first standalone event for competitors in the 35+ age categories and will run over Saturday 17 June and Sunday 18 June in the morning.
The England Legacy Para Powerlifting Open is a welcome opportunity for para powerlifters to compete and takes place on the afternoon of Sunday 18 June.
These events are able to take place with thanks to Sport England, who are funders of the Birmingham 2022 CWG Legacy Programme
The England Legacy Masters Championships will recognise Masters aged 35 or above on 31 December 2023 according to the BWL TCRRs. Masters age groups will be in 5-year increments (35-39, 40-44, 45-49 etc up to 80+).
The England Legacy Master Championships will have the following qualification process:
- Lifters must achieve the minimum qualification total to become eligible for the event – the qualification totals can be found here.
- Qualification standard must be achieved within the published qualification period.
- The qualification period is 18 June 2022 – 17 June 2023.
BWL will accept the qualification totals achieved in the qualification period from any BWL tier 1, 2 or 3 competitions.
Lifters may move bodyweight category up to 7 days before the event takes place by giving written notice to competitions@britishweightlifting.org
Lifters who do not make weight at the event will be allowed to compete as guests only.
The England Legacy Para Powerlifting Open will recognise any individual aged 16 or above with an eligible impairment. A list of eligible impairments can be found here: https://www.paralympic.org/powerlifting/classification).
Please include any medical evidence that supports your eligibility in your entry to British Weight Lifting.
As the event is capped at 80 entries for weightlifting (40 women and 40 men) and 20 for para powerlifting (10 women and 10 men), the registration is on a first come, first served basis.
The cost of entry is £40.
The entries will open at 17:00 on Monday 3 April and close at 21:00 on 19 May 2023.
Classed as a tier 2 event the results from the Masters competition can be used to qualify for future competitions and will be listed on the rankings through Sport 80.
Results from the Para Powerlifting competition will be listed on the rankings through Sport 80.
The top three ranked male and female lifters using the Coefficient Formula (CF) found here (https://db.ipc-services.org/centre/tools/pdots) shall be used to crown the winners.
Placings will be determined according to Coefficient Formula.

*Please note that a child concession is someone aged between 11 - 16 years of age. Photographic ID to prove age may be required. Anyone aged 10 and under can enter the competition free of charge with an accompanying adult.
