Emily Muskett participates in MND Association ‘Women in Sport’ Q&A panel
Emily Muskett recently participated in a ‘Women in Sport’ event held in association with the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association.
The evening, which was held at the British Olympic Association (BOA) Headquarters in London, was attended by the MND Association Patron and President of the BOA, Her Royal Highness Princess Anne.
A Q&A panel led by Olympic rower Anne-Marie Phelps, consisted of rowing Olympic Champion and chair of UK Sport Dame Katherine Grainger, Paralympic wheelchair racer Anne Wafula-Strike MBE and Emily.
Topics discussed included the athlete’s journeys in sport and adversity that they had faced. For Emily, her story covered her Mum’s diagnosis and passing due to MND in the build up to the Tokyo Olympic Games, a very poignant topic of the evening.
Emily also discussed the Lift Me Up weightlifting competition that she runs annually in conjunction with British Weight Lifting (BWL) at Winners 2000 gym in Devon and the importance of this event in raising awareness and funds for the MND Association - all of which go towards research in finding effective treatment for the disease. If you are interested in competing in the event, keep an eye out over the next couple of months as details for the 2023 event will be released soon.
