Last month British Weight Lifting launched the Open Series format with events taking place across the country.

BWL Open Series Round 1 Roundup

Each region (North, Midlands & South) is hosting its own three round series and the first phase of competition has already been completed.

The winner of each series will be the male and female lifter with the highest combined Sinclair score after the third event. They will be entitled to a £250 cash prize courtesy of BWL.

After the first round only one point separated the top two male lifters in the South Series.

English title holder Johnathan Chin narrowly edged out Kris Speed to top the table. They scored 335 and 334 respectively in a competition that attracted 78 entries in total.

Chin lifted 262kg compared to Speed’s 290kg, but once bodyweight was taken into account the scores closed up considerably which leaves everything to play for in Round 2.

In the Woman’s rankings Jess Gordon Brown secured first place with 236 points which placed her six clear of Faye Pittman in second place.

Meanwhile in the Midlands Series Jane Lee-Isted currently the tops the standings with a Sinclair score of 214.

She lifted a total of 149kg in the 55kg category to put herself in a great position for the overall prize.

However, going forward she faces strong competition from Charlotte Weatherall-Smith who went six from six and lifted 178kg in 76kg class to round out on a score of 210.

In the Men’s rankings Guy Michel Tchuissi holds a commanding lead as he recorded six clean lifts with an impressive haul of 305kg in total.

Tchuissi walked away with a score of 365 which places him 43 points above his nearest challenger.

There was also a dominant display in the North Series as Allan King secured a score of 380. He has an advantage of 47 heading into the next phase.

Hannah Beaumont is sitting comfortably in the Woman’s division with 240 points. She has a gap of 28 over Chloe Mays.
