BWL Open Series Midlands Round 2 Review

The second round of the BWL Midlands Open Series was held at MSC Performance in Birmingham on the 27th of July and the competition saw some massive movements in the overall rankings.

BWL Open Series Midlands Round 2 Review

Luis Ruiz surged to the top of the standings in the Men’s division courtesy of some consistent performances across both the events held so far.

He finished 7th in Round 2, which when added to his previous 6th place in the first event was enough for him to take top spot.

Ruiz currently has a combined Sinclair score of 501.53 which puts him 25.61 points clear of Phillip Dee in second place so there is still everything to play for in Round 3.

Top honours on the day went to series debutant Luke Mander who clinched first with a Sinclair score of 223.

Competing at a bodyweight of 80.5kg, Mander snatched 95kg on his second attempt and then went three from three on the clean and jerks to finish on 140kg for a total of 235kg

Women’s division winner Amy Salt mirrored Mander in reverse by snatching three in a row.

Competing at 71.3kg in her first Open Series event, Salt lifted 72kg, 76kg and 80kg before clean & jerking 103kg to finish with a total of 183kg.

That performance saw Salt move into third place overall with a Sinclair score of 222.84.

Stephanie Kotterer currently leads the Woman’s rankings with 343.55 after racking up another 172.35, in addition to the 171.2 she recorded in Round 1.

Her nearest challenger is fellow Harlem Barbell lifter Lianne Sellors who lies just 13.88 points adrift.

That small gap could be significant come Round 3 as the top male and female lifter with the highest combined Sinclair after the conclusion of the series will each be awarded a cash prize of £250 courtesy of BWL.

The BWL Midlands Series returns to MSC Performance in Birmingham for the final round on the 26th of October.

Entries are now open via Sport 80.
