BWL Members Vote To Remain Funding Compliant
BWL are delighted to announce that following their EGM on Saturday 16th September, the BWL membership voted in favour of amending their Articles of Association in line with the requirements of the recently published Code for Sports Governance. BWL is now on target to be fully compliant by 31st October and eligible to receive public funding from UK Sport and Sport England over the next four years.
With the exception of one abstention, the members voted unanimously in favour of the changes, which now ensures that subject to BWL achieving annual stakeholder targets, funding in excess of £3.5m is secured for the next 4 year cycle.
BWL Chief Executive Ashley Metcalfe added:
“We are delighted with the outcome of the vote and we would like to thank all of our members for their ongoing support around the EGM and understanding the critical nature of these changes.”
“The funding from Sport England over the next four years will further support the development of our volunteers, coaches, clubs, athletes, facilities, competitions and rankings to create a positive, stable and exciting future for our sport. Whilst UK Sport’s support will provide a world class environment to enable our elite Para-Powerlifters to build on their multi-medal successes in Rio.”
The recent publication by Sport England and UK Sport, the mandatory Code for Sport’s Governance, states that it is now essential that all sports in receipt of public funds, including BWL adhere fully to the Code and demonstrate a total of being compliant with its requirements by 31st October 2017.
