BWL CEO Matthew Curtain re-elected to IWF Executive Board
British Weight Lifting (BWL) CEO Matthew Curtain has been re-elected to the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Executive Board for the 2025–2029 term. His re-election was confirmed at the IWF Electoral Congress held on 24 May 2025 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he secured 147 votes.
Curtain’s continued presence on the Board builds on his impactful contributions during his 2022–2025 tenure. His previous roles included serving as Technical Delegate for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Vice Chair of the IWF Innovation Commission, and as a member of the CEO Hiring Commission, Digital Transformation Working Group, and Licensing and Partnerships Working Group. Notably, in December 2024, Curtain played a key role in securing the IWF’s landmark eight-year partnership with British sports apparel company SBD.
The IWF Electoral Congress also confirmed Mohammed Jalood (IRQ) as IWF President, José Quiñones (PER) as General Secretary, and Ursula Papandrea (USA) as First Vice-President. Mohammed AlHarbi (KSA) and Chengliang Liu (CHN) were elected as Vice-Presidents.
The newly elected Board also includes Wen Hsin Chang (TPE), Pyrros Dimas (GRE), Gardencia Du Plooy (RSA), Yassiny Esquivel (CRC), Karolina Lundahl (FIN), Shakhrillo Makhmudov (UZB), Florian Sperl (GER), Sirilak Thatman (THA), Boukar Tikire (CMR), Jerry Wallwork (SAM), Luis Zambrano (ECU).
In addition to the 17 elected members, the IWF Executive Board comprises five continental federation presidents and three representatives from the IWF Athletes Commission, including its Chair.
