British Weight Lifting Team announced ahead of European Championships

British Weight Lifting is pleased to announce that 15 athletes have been selected to represent Great Britain at the forthcoming European Championships, which will take place in Yerevan, Armenia between 15 – 23 April 2023.

Women’s team final selection (8 women)

W55 Category – Catrin Jones

W59 Category – Jess Gordon Brown and Laura Wheatcroft

W64 Category – Zoe Smith

W71 Category – Sarah Davies and Erin Barton

W81 Category – Katrina Feklistova

W87+ Category – Emily Campbell

 

Men’s team final selection (7 Men)

 M73 Category – Jonathan Chin

M81 Category – Chris Murray

M89 Category – Stefano Cataldi

M96 Category – Cyrille Tchatchet II

M109 Category – Andrew Griffiths

M109+ Category – Mackenzie Middleton and Gordon Shaw

 

The team will be accompanied by Stuart Martin, Dave Sawyer, Andrew Callard and Liam Rodgers (Team Physiotherapist).

Dave Sawyer, BWL National Coach has commented,

“Huge congratulations to every single one of the athletes who have come through a tough selection process to represent Great Britain at the European Senior Championships in Armenia.  This represents the quality of the team entered which include 8 women and 7 men. I would also like to give a warm welcome to some new faces on the team."

“This is an Olympic qualifying event for Paris 2024, so we are expecting the athletes to be on their best form to make their mark. Last year at the European Championships, the women’s team came third and the men’s team came eighth in Europe, making Great Britain the highest ranked Western European Nation in the competition. I am excited to see how the athletes can better these results in 2023. On behalf of the coaching and support teams I wish you all the very best.”
