British Weight Lifting Competitions Postponed due to COVID-19

British Weight Lifting has today taken the decision to postpone the following events due to the continued impact of COVID-19:
• England Age Group Championships (21 – 22 March)
• BWL South Open Series 1 (29 March)
• British University and College Championships (18 – 19 April)

Whilst the government has not put restrictions on events such as these, this action has been taken due to the increasing risk of the spread of COVID-19 virus. The health and safety of all our staff, lifters, volunteers and spectators is of paramount concern and British Weight Lifting are keen to mitigate any risk as far as possible.

The team will be working hard over the coming days and week to contact affected lifters and spectators via email. All entry and spectator costs will be refunded (minus any transaction fees).

We will be assessing the impact of these postponed events on qualification for future competitions and will issue an update over the coming month.

For any Tier three competitions running, it will be up to the discretion of individual clubs whether they continue or will be postponed. Health and Safety is of the biggest priority and the clubs running the competitions need to follow recommended government guidance.

British Weight Lifting will continue to monitor the situation closely and follow guidance from the Government, DCMS, Public Health England, Sport & Recreation Alliance, UK Sport and Sport England for any events post 19 April 2020.

All British Weight Lifting courses will continue to run as normal until further notice. Should anyone feel they are unable to attend a pre-booked course, we will be happy to transfer learners to a future course date. We would urge you to give as much notice as possible if this is the case.
