British Weight Lifting announces GBR Team for IWF World Championships 2023
British Weight Lifting (BWL) has officially announced the team representing Great Britain in the upcoming International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Championships 2023.
This highly anticipated competition, scheduled to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in September 2023, holds significant importance as it serves as a mandatory qualifying event for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.
With the sport of weightlifting gaining popularity and recognition worldwide, the GBR team comprises a formidable line-up of talented athletes who will strive to showcase their strength, technique, and determination on the global stage. The competition this year is expected to introduce a unique format, utilizing two platforms instead of the conventional one, adding an exciting element to the event.
Leading the charge for Great Britain is Emily Campbell in the women's 87+ kg category. Campbell has already made waves in the weightlifting community with her exceptional performances in recent years. Joining her on the women's team are Katrina Feklistova (81kg) Sarah Davies (71 kg), Zoe Smith (59 kg), Fraer Morrow (49 kg), Erin Barton (71 kg), Jess Gordon-Brown (59 kg), Katrina Feklistova (81 kg), and Laura Wheatcroft (64kg).
In the men's division, Chris Murray (81 kg), Cyrille Tchatchet II (96 kg) and Jonathan Chin (73 kg) will proudly represent Great Britain. Each athlete brings their unique set of skills and experiences, with hopes of securing top placements at the championships and earning coveted Olympic qualification spots.
The athletes have been diligently preparing, pushing their limits during training sessions and working closely with their coaches to ensure they are in peak condition for the World Championships.
