Board Approves British Officials for 2025 IWF Electoral Congress
Following the recommendation by an independent nominations panel, the BWL Board has approved the following British officials to candidate at the IWF Electoral Congress to be held in Riyadh from 24 – 25 May 2025.
Matthew Curtain – candidate for General Secretary, First Vice President, Vice President, Ordinary Executive Board Member
Dr. Heather Allison – Technical Committee Member
Dave Sawyer – Coaching & Research Committee Member
Joanne Calvino – Development & Education Commission Member
BWL Senior Independent Director Rupinder Ashworth said: ‘we continue to support ethically eligible candidates who have a proven background in promoting clean sport as well as other values associated with good governance including the ongoing advocacy for the wider vision and development of the International Weightlifting Federation’.
BWL CEO Matthew Curtain said: ‘BWL is proud to continue supporting the IWF and its mandate to drive forward the advancement of the sport. My vision as IWF General Secretary is to build upon the renewed and refreshed position of Weightlifting within the Olympic movement to further benefit clean athletes globally. This includes more new commercial partnerships, more new events, and formats, as well as establishing an IWF Foundation to supplement and support the existing IWF development programme’.
