The England Age Group Championships is a growing and more popular weightlifting event for the younger lifter in England. British Weight Lifting is pleased to announce that the England Age Groups will run between 23 - 25 February 2024 and will be held at Mote Hall, Maidstone Leisure Centre, Mote Park, Maidstone.

The England Age Group Championships 2024 will provide a competition opportunity for the younger weightlifters in the UK, in age groups ranging from U10 up to U23. Categorised as a Tier 1 event, the results from the competition will be listed on the BWL rankings and can be used for qualification to future national events and international selection.

Virtual Qualifier: 

The England Age Groups 2024 (Virtual) Qualifier will run from December 18 to January 7 2024.

All virtual competitions require competitors to display honesty and integrity when taking part and we are confident that the weightlifting community can and will demonstrate these values.

The competition:

The England Age Groups 2024 (Virtual) Qualifier will run as a virtual competition. The competition will be open to all BWL members.

Classed as a Tier 3 event the results from the competition can be used for rankings and qualification to future national events.

Results from this competition cannot be used for new records.

Entries

There are no qualification standards to enter the England Age Groups 2024 (Virtual) Qualifier.

There is no cap on entry numbers.

Entries will cost £15.00.

To enter you will need to film yourself making three attempts at the snatch and clean & jerk and upload them to the competition webpage.

Please note that you are permitted to upload videos of three attempts per lift (Snatch and Clean & Jerk) when entering any virtual competition. We strongly encourage lifters to submit videos of all the available attempts to avoid missing out on a total due to a ‘no-lift’ decision for a single attempt video.

All entries for virtual competitions must be performed during the entry period for the competition. The England Age Groups 2024 (Virtual) Qualifier is open from 0900 Monday December 18 to 21.00 Sunday January 7, and all lift videos must be timestamped within this period to be eligible. Videos with a timestamp outside the entry period will not be accepted for entry.

Entries will be judged and lifters will be contacted post judging. Please note, The qualification period for England Age Groups Championships close on 14 January 2024.

Two (2) competition platforms will be used to deliver the 2024 England Age Group Championships. To avoid the need for under-age athletes to be absent from school, the U20 & U23 England Championships will be held on Friday 23 February 2024.

Athlete Eligibility

All age groups are calculated based on the athlete’s age from the year of their birth.  An athlete shall be entitled to only compete in one age group.

All athletes must be current members of British Weight Lifting and must be domiciled in England as per the BWL Technical Competition Rules and Regulations (TCRR).

BWL reserves to the right to allocate athlete slots on a discretionary basis outside of the athlete quota should it be deemed in the best competition interest of the performance programme. In such case, the athlete will compete as a guest only.

To be eligible to compete at the England U10 & U12 Championships, an athlete must have competed officially at least once during the qualifying period. There is no minimum standard.

Competition Schedule

The competition schedule will be released no later than 7 February 2024

Other information

Athletes may move down a bodyweight category providing they inform BWL no later than ten (10) days prior to the start of the event. This is entirely at the discretion of BWL.

Athletes aged seventeen (17) or under may move one bodyweight category higher without achieving the NQT for the higher category. This is entirely at the discretion of BWL. This rule only applies in age group competitions at Youth (U17) and below.

No changes will be made to the competition entry after final verification ten (10) days prior to the start of the event, excepting for U17 athletes who may move one bodyweight category higher at the time of weigh-in.

Photo ID must be presented at the point of registration at the front desk and weigh-in regardless of the lifter having a ‘lifter’ stamp.

The ‘20kg’ rules will be applied.
