Celebrating Success: British Masters Championships and British Open 2023

Not to be beaten by storm Babet, over the weekend of October 21st and 22nd, the weightlifting community gathered in Scotland for a truly remarkable event - the British Masters Championships and British Open 2023. This competition, held at Hutchesons' Grammar School in Glasgow, was a testament to the dedication of athletes, coaches, officials, and enthusiasts.

Athletes from across the UK showcased their skill and hard-earned training. The commitment and effort that went into each lift were palpable and inspiring. The stand out performance came from Ally McGrath who set new Scottish U23 & Senior Snatch (80kg), C&J (101kg) and Total (181kg) records in the 61kg category. Stella Kingsley also impressed with lifts of 68kg snatch and 90kg C&J in the 49kg category. The full results can be found here:

As the final day of competition drew to a close, British Weight Lifting extends its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who played a pivotal role in making this event a tremendous success. From the competitions team and technical officials to the athletes, coaches, spectators, and the diligent loaders, your unwavering dedication was the foundation of this memorable event.

A special thank you goes out to Richard Tawse, Frank Etherson, and Alex Phillips for their invaluable assistance in setting up and de-rigging the event. Their hard work and commitment were instrumental in bringing this event to life. We also express our deep gratitude to the Technical Officials (TOs) and loaders whose tireless efforts ensured a smooth and successful competition.

The Hutchesons' Grammar School staff also deserve a special acknowledgment for providing an excellent venue. Their support and hospitality contributed significantly to the overall success of the event.
