MAY 2020 UPDATE REGARDING CORONAVIRUS

Please note this outlines a provisional framework and return to the Regional Open Series and is subject to potential further change presented by COVID-19. BWL will continue to follow Government Guidance and are currently reviewing the safe and successful delivery of all our competitions to ensure lifter, coach and volunteer safety is the key priority. We are also aware that the latest advice from each Home Nation Government may vary.

Overview

Due to the impact of the ongoing Covid-19 situation BWL has amended the 2020 Regional Open Series after the postponement of several events between March and July.

The 2020 Regional Open Series will now see three competitions take place in each Series instead of four, with the outline for each Series detailed below.

Each Series operates independently, and all events are classed as Tier 3 competition so the results can be used for records, rankings and qualification to Tier 1 and 2 events.

The Series runs in accordance with BWL TCRR with exception of some rules, listed below.

Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female lifters in three recognised age groups:

Senior: £250

Masters: £150

Youth: A PulseRoll vibrating foam roller

North Open Series

The North Open Series will now run three events instead of four.  The North Series 2 on 11 July has been postponed, with entry fees and tickets refunded.  This event will not be rescheduled.

The North Open Series 3 and 4 events are scheduled to take place as planned (03-Oct and 12-Dec).  They will be re-numbered as Open Series 2 and 3 respectively.  The new Series will be:

North 1                        14 March        Complete

North 2                        03 October      (originally number 3)

North 3                        12 December  (originally number 4)

Midlands Open Series

The Midlands Open Series will now run three events instead of four.  The Midlands Series 2 on 03 May has been postponed, with entry fees and tickets refunded.  This event will not be rescheduled.

The Midlands Open Series 3 and 4 events are scheduled to take place as planned (27-Sep and 29-Nov).  They will be re-numbered as Open Series 2 and 3 respectively.  The new Series will be:

Midlands 1      09 February     Complete

Midlands 2      27 September (originally number 3)

Midlands 3      29 November  (originally number 4)

South Open Series

The South Open Series will now run three events instead of four.  The South Series 1 and 2 on 29-March and 14-June have been postponed, with entry fees and tickets refunded.  The South Series 1 and 2 will not be rescheduled in 2020.

The South Open Series 3 and 4 events are scheduled to take place as planned (11-Oct and 05-Dec).  They will be re-numbered as Open Series 1 and 2 respectively.

To provide three competitions another competition (Series 3) will be scheduled in early 2021.  The new Series will be:

South 1                        11 October      (originally number 3)

South 2                        05 December  (originally number 4)

South 3                        TBC early 2021

Entry, Scoring and Results

The minimum age to compete is 13 or older on 31 December 2020.  There is no maximum age to compete.

Although all results from the BWL Open Series are eligible for records, ranking and qualification, the Series itself is not scored on Total.  It is scored on Sinclair points; the Series winner is the male and female lifter in each age groups with highest combined Sinclair score after the Series final event (SMF score for Masters).  As there are no longer four competitions, there is no longer a requirement to compete in 3 out of 4 Series events.  Instead every result for a lifter will contribute to their final score.

Medals will be presented to the top 3 lifters on the day for each Series competition.

Sinclair (or SMF) points cannot be transferred between the Series’, for example a lifter cannot combine points from a North Series and South Series event.  Instead this would show that they had one score in the North and one score in the South.

Coaches

All coaches must have a BWL L2 qualification and valid coach licence to attend a BWL Open Series event, as per any other Tier 3 events.  Checks will be carried out pre-event and at each event also.

Spectators

BWL Open Series events are ticketed.

Tickets will be available online through EventBrite for a standard fee of £7.50.  BWL members can get up to 4 tickets at a specially discounted rate of £6.50.  Simply enter your BWL membership number to reveal the reduced rate.  And all children aged 10 or below can watch for just £1 if accompanying a paying adult!

Tickets will be available on the door at each event for £10, however no tickets will be reserved for each event so if they sell out online we cannot guarantee entry.

Technical Rules and Exceptions

The BWL Open Series follows the BWL TCRR except for rules:

6.1.9 Category Changes

At the BWL Open Series athletes are not required to make a specific bodyweight in order to compete.  Whilst the category the lifter competes in is applied for qualification, records and rankings it is not a requirement to weigh within this category to compete in the Open Series.

Athletes may move category on the day if they are unable to make weight.

6.8 Classification of Lifters and Teams

The BWL Open Series will be scored according to the criteria above.
