The BWL Open Series will take place in the North, Midlands and South, with each area hosting its own Series of competitions. Each Series will consist of four events taking place at points in the season where lifters are aiming to qualify for national events, or there are limited opportunities to compete.

BWL Open Series 2020

Overview

Each Series operates independently and at the end of the Series the top male and female lifter in the Senior age group will each receive a £250 cash prize. With the top Masters lifters receiving £150 and the top Youth lifters each receiving a state of the art Pulseroll foam roller.

All BWL Open Series events are classed as Tier 3 competition so the results can be used for records, rankings and qualification to Tier 1 and 2 events.

The Series runs in accordance with BWL TCRR with exception of some rules, listed below.

Age Groups

The BWL Open Series is designed to offer a competition opportunity to as many lifters as possible.  The Series covers three age groups, Senior (18-35), Masters (35+) and Youth (13-17).

Each Series event is capped at approximately 60 entries although that does depend on the date and venue of the competition, the limit will be displayed on the event entry page.

Lifters may not be grouped according to bodyweight category at the BWL Open Series.  Instead they may be grouped by total.  This is linked to the way the competition is scored.

Results

All results from the BWL Open Series are eligible for records, rankings and qualifications in line with the applicable edition of the Technical Competition Rules and Regulations.

At every Series event, the top three lifters in each age group for male and female will be presented with medals at the end of the competition.

The medallists will be decided based on the scoring criteria outlined below.

Scoring – Senior and Youth

The Senior and Youth age groups are scored on Sinclair points; the male and female lifters with highest combined Sinclair score after the Series final event will win.  Sinclair points cannot be transferred between the Series, for example a lifter cannot combine points from a North Series and South Series event.  Instead this would show that they had one score in the North and one score in the South.  Only the top three results count towards the final Sinclair points, meaning that lifters don’t have to commit to four separate competitions to have a chance of winning.

The overall Series winners in the Senior age group will win a £250 cash prize.  The overall Series winners in the Masters age group will win £150 and the overall Series winners I the Youth age group will win a state of the art Pulseroll foam roller.

Scoring - Masters

The Masters age group is scored on SMF points; the male and female lifters with highest combined Sinclair score after the Series final event will win a £150 cash prize each.

SMF points cannot be transferred between the Series, for example a lifter cannot combine points from a North Series and South Series event.  Instead this would show that they had one score in the North and one score in the South.  Only the top three results count towards the final SMF points, meaning that lifters don’t have to commit to four separate competitions to have a chance of winning.

The overall Series winners in the Masters age group will win £150.

Technical Rules and Exceptions

The BWL Open Series follows the BWL TCRR except for rules:

 6.1.9 Category Changes

At the BWL Open Series athletes are not required to make a specific bodyweight in order to compete.  Whilst the category the lifter competes in is applied for qualification, records and rankings it is not a requirement to weigh within this category to compete in the Open Series.

Athletes may move category on the day if they are unable to make weight.

6.8 Classification of Lifters and Teams

The BWL Open Series will be scored according to the criteria above.
