Leading Sports and Leisure insurance provider, Sportscover had pledged a £500 record breaker prize pot and both Mercy Brown and Emily Campbell took full advantage in front of a packed Ricoh Arena last week.

Both senior Internationals were in fantastic form with Mercy breaking both the snatch and clean and jerk records at 90kg category, whilst recent Commonwealth Games bronze medallist, Emily Campbell broke the snatch record in the 90+kg category.

BWL’s CEO Ashley Metcalfe added:

“Congratulations to both Emily and Mercy. Not only were they outstanding and deserved to share the prize pot, they are real ambassadors for the sport and show what can be achieved through hard work and training. I am sure there will be a lot more to come from both at home and abroad.

“BWL remain most grateful to Sportscover for their continued support of both the sport and individual lifters.”

The British Championships was a real celebration of the sport which for the first time incorporated a Development and Masters open competition accompanying the traditional National Seniors and Para-Powerlifting events.

Mercy Brown broke records in the Women’s 90kg category with a snatch of 97kg, a Clean & Jerk of 124kg therefore registering a total of 221kg.

Emily Campbell recorded a Snatch of 107kg to replace previous holder Mercy Brown in the Women’s 90+ category.

Both lifters now hold all three records in their respective categories and will receive a well-earned £250 each for their efforts.

British Weight Lifting recently announced that the world’s leading specialist sport and leisure insurer Sportscover has extended their exciting partnership until 2022.
